Quality Matters

We believe that great grapes make great wine and for that reason we only work with quality grapes sources from organically and sustainably farmed vineyards.

– The Stephens

Pur Noire understands that the best wines start in the vineyard. Our winemaker works closely with our vineyard partners to ensure that the grapes meet our quality standards and that they are harvested at the perfect time. The end result is consistent, high-quality fruit, that ensures that our winemaker is able to make quality wine year in and year out.

BROKEN ROCK VINEYARD

This vineyard is 48 acres and is positioned in the mountains of Napa facing westward. The vineyard consistently produces wines of unusual intensity and concentration. The property, which is currently planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is located on the eastern ridge of Napa Valley at the foot of Atlas Peak near Soda Canyon.

Fruit from this area obtain great structure from its position on the hillside structure and intensely rich flavor from its position on the valley floor. Western exposure provides plenty of afternoon sun for the 2,000 vines planted per acre in low fertility soil. This density and fight for nutrients results in flavor intense fruit. Broken Rock is owned by elite vineyard designer & operator and is consistently found in the Wine Spectator Top 100 year over year.

MORGAN LEE VINEYARD

Nestled on the floor of the beautiful Yountville AVA of Napa County, Morgan Lee Vineyard thrives in the cool, crisp mornings breaking into warm, sunny afternoons. Using a GDC trellising system, the grapes are largely spaced for optimal sun exposure and increased protection from frost. Planted to clone 14, this satiny, crisp and elegant wine is classic and what you find from New Zealand producers. The vineyard is known for producing phenomenal Sauvignon Blanc which we blend with Pinot Gris to bring you Pur Elevation.

The soils are heavy clay loam. The vineyard uses a GDC Quad-lateral Trellis system. The wines from the vineyard generally yields earthy flavors and mineral essence layered with tropical fruit, melon and hint of grapefruit on the nose.

HERRINGER ESTATES

This vineyard is carefully managed and analyzed throughout the year to guide varietal management programs. Vineyard practices include, but are not limited to:

1.    deficit irrigation with row by row management
2.    shoot thinning to 1-2 shoots per position
3.    Seasonal leaf pulling to create dappled sunlight
4.    Fruit thinning to create a consistent fruit zone
5.    Rotating cover crops to naturally introduce nutrients into the soil
6.    Weekly berry sampling once varieties reach 20ºBx

The vineyard is managed in a way that creates a clean and consistent fruit zone, ready hand harvest. These strategic farming practices lead to high quality fruit from year to year. The grapes are third party certified sustainable through Protected Harvest via Lodi Rules.

Located on the Sacramento River, the Clarksburg AVA is profoundly defined by the maritime influence of the Sacramento Delta, and has been statistically identified as comparable to the best wine grape regions in California (Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles) in terms of degree days and day to evening temperatures.
